Life’s curveballs often send people in completely unexpected directions
- a lesson 4-star Chef Jonathan Harootunian knows all too well. While
many chefs get into the restaurant industry by accident, in Harootunian’s
case, it literally took a car accident to propel him into the business.
Needing to get his car back on the road, 21-year-old Harootunian took
a job as a line cook. Although he did not know it at the time, he
began on the path towards a lifetime in restaurants. When his original
plans to apprentice as a high-end woodworker hit a roadblock, it became
clear that the culinary arena offered him the ideal canvas on which
to express his innate creativity and talent for working with his hands.
Says Harootunian, “I don’t think I ever had it in my mind to become
a chef. I think it actually became me.” |
